ACOUSTIC WANDER

David Pendragon  3/4/2005

The wandering minstrel. Now interestingly this review was prompted by a discussion in a thread I posted on the subject of the score 10/10/10/10.Here we have a perfect example of the question involved. What could be marked down or 'criticized' in this production,.. ABSOLUTLY NOTHING!! The production values are admirable, that must be a rather good guitar you have there, connected to a very good player too. I do like the WANDER elements of the piece construction, drifting through great mood changes, open strung guitar often doesn’t travel to much more than 'one theme per piece' this however is a journey to many and varied places. The harder strum energy perfectly complimented by the lighter picked passages. An exuberant piece of acoustic joy. You know I think I feel a 10 coming on! On mp3 I do notice a very slight break up on the stronger passages but I don’t think that would be evident on CD, so I don’t take that into consideration when rating this. You may benefit though from mastering a copy especially for 128 mp3. FANTASTIC

Down and dirty. A nice laid back track at the beginning that reminded me a lot of something you would hear in the film Crossroads (the Ralph Macchio one). I loved the way you upped the tempo and got that down and dirty sound going with the rhythm and nice twangy lead going over the top. The performance was spot on and I couldn't fault it anywhere. It had slight shades of Led Zeppelin towards the middle of the track for me as well. A good use of rhythm and melody make this a great track to listen to.

Superb acoustic work. I have to say, the flying hero's are now one of my favourite acoustic artists, after listening to this instrumental I just felt like these guys knew what they were doing. Great experimentation and the way the mood builds for the song is excellent,

Beautiful intro...and it gets better from there.. What a tone!! Should be on a soundtrack without a doubt. Thanks for sharing an amazing talent of playing and writing.

Wandering Heroes? Now if anyone listens to this who produces film soundtracks.....what are you waiting for? At the moment my guitar playing consists of a few chords very inexpertly strummed. This is a quality performance from a quality performer! Simply brilliant!

Brilliant! Great piece all around, the sound, the songwriting, THE PLAYING, all of it is magnificent. This song definately put a smile to my face in more than one part. Great job!

Powerful statement...The loud cry of a pining heart comes through with controlled power in this poignant song. Soulful performance - particularly the vocals. Acoustic guitar supportive of the vocals but shining through with clarity and body. Beautiful chord work...excellent melody. The lyrics sadden me - this is not a bad thing....not a bad thing to cry from time to time....BEAUTIFUL!

Singing A Song Of Peace IS Christian! Sorry but yes you are..at least the most important aspect of it. IMHO, of course!! You have a very beautiful song here in melody and lyrical content. I really love the feel of this song. The guitar's melodic/chord playing then joined by the second guitar was very nice. Good vocal on this one. Sung with some very apparent passion. We not only need more songs like yours, but we need more people to learn what it means to practice the golden rule, that is espoused by every single religious tradition. Songs like yours need to be sung until humanity wakes up from its drunken and immoral stupor. Not going to happen in our life time though. They all "really think God is on their side! Idolizing your personal relationship with your chosen deity in opposition to all others is the greatest of all blasphemies! Ok off my soap box of personal opinion. But your song is wonderful. Keep writing them!! We need them more than we know!

All the best,

               guy

Carl Seager's song writing skills are clear to hear as are his exceptional ability to play and produce. The more I hear his voice, the more I hear the tones of Andy Partridge of XTC. That is a massive compliment for people who have not come to know XTC! Poignant lyrics, too.

Courageous. The statement is simply profound and true. The delivery is just perfect enough to accentuate the all important words. It's songs like this that keep me from giving up completely on the idea of truth in music, which is reflected so well here. More of these please.

Bare naked soul. Your song cut through me like a knife. Brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful delivery as well.

REVIEW by PENDRAGON

The opening of the song is very effective, beautifully recorded acoustic leading into a close proximity mic'ed vocal with excellent clarity. Good balance of frequencies throughout give a great listening experience, even on mp3.A very emotive vocal delivery tells the story in a captivating way. I like this song a lot, drawn into the music as I listen, very sensitive. The balance of instruments is very delicate, I had to listen 'into' the sound to follow the violin, that’s just really nice mixing. The ending of the piece works well, leaving the song' hanging ' in the air, a lovely melody to be listened to more than once.

WHAT an Intro!!!! Almost just repeated the intro over and over! BUT - I'm glad I didn't. Beautiful melody supported by EXCELLENT instrumentation. Vocal performance is beyond excellent. Beautiful lyrics, deleivered with precision. Violin work is so perfectly set in the mix: creates a sublime effect and adds a beautiful hue to the song. Production is top notch and all of the performances are excellent. GREAT work!!!

A song that carries you. This is a great song. Alot of songs you can tell where they are going, what chords coming next. This song leads you in all different directions in an enjoyably original way, and the lyrics are great. Well done Seags.

Without a doubt...there is a reason this song has been rated so high. It is beautifully crafted as someone put. There's no bells and whistles present nor are they needed. A beautiful melody backs a beautiful story.

Top Notch! Excellent harmonies, instrument playing and singing. Production is great. Song structure and arrangement top drawer. Like the violin! I agree with the intro comment from one of the other reviews...outstanding.

As we expected from the absurdly talented Mr. Seager - excellently played acoustic and electric guitars, a great vocal performance, spot-on harmonies and a classy recording. We just LOVE that delicious solo at the 2:50 mark - INSPIRED playing and such a beautiful, warm tone! Great stuff Seags - we want to play this one again and again!

A really driving acoustic guitar gives way to a voice akin to that of Gerry Rafferty, then swells with a sweet vox harmony. The song fully opens with the arrival of bass and kit. Just as you're settling into the feel, in comes the middle eight with it's sudden slight melancholy, a perfect build into a two part guitar solo that's tuly masterful. The mid 8 through the solo is perfectly backed with a warm pad, then soaring strings, leaving the listener in no doubt that they are dealing with experienced, seasoned professionals.

This song is soon to be released on a UKBands compilation CD with an acoustic flavour, and can be heard at www.flyingheroes.co.uk/voodoosun.htm

Highly recommended!
